Energy efficiency and renewable energies

energy-efficiency

On the occasion of World Energy Efficiency Day, which takes place on March 5 every year, we remember the importance of making the most efficient use of energy, making the most of the available goods and resources.

Energy efficiency does not necessarily imply reducing the comfort provided by energy, which we need and enjoy in our everyday lives, but rather optimizing the amount of resources needed to produce energy and using it wisely.

Climate change and sustainability

Energy efficiency allows us to contribute to the fight against climate change while moving towards a more sustainable reality. With simple steps such as taking advantage of the available natural resources (such as the sun) and avoiding wasting energy we will be reducing the amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, and therefore we will be taking care of the environment. Moreover, by using renewable energies to meet our energy needs and create transportation possibilities we help promoting a more sustainable reality.

Renewable energies

The rise of renewable energies in recent years is clear. More and more companies in the sector are becoming aware of the need for renewable energies to be in the center of energy generation, and the rise of related projects keeps increasing. In addition, investment in renewable energy projects continues to grow steadily in a large number of countries around the world.

Photovoltaics and wind power are at the forefront of the strongest trends for renewable energy projects.

The total offshore wind power installed in Europe in 2018 grew by 18% with regards to the previous year. The United Kingdom leads the production of wind power (44%) according to the data registered last year 2018, followed closely by Germany (34%), while Spain ranks tenth by power generation.

Photovoltaic energy production continues to gain strength. During last year 2018, the Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha became a hotspot for photovoltaic production in the country, becoming the fourth region in terms of renewable energy production at a national level.

2019 is expected to be a key year in terms of renewable energies, a year of continuous progress towards the goal set in Europe: making it possible for 20% of the energy used in Europe by 2020 to come from renewable sources.
