In commemoration of the Montreal Protocol signed in 1987, the UN General Assembly proclaimed September 16th as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

The ozone layer is a fragile strip of gas that protects the Earth from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays, thus helping to preserve life on the planet. Over the years, certain chemicals have been damaging it, endangering life on the planet.

The main objective of the Montreal Protocol is to take measures to control the total global production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances, to eliminate them.

Implementation of this protocol has progressed well in both developed and developing countries, with all phase-out schedules being met, in some cases well ahead of schedule.

According to former Secretary-General Kofi Annan: “The Montreal Protocol is perhaps the most successful international agreement to date”.

Indeed, thanks to this collective global effort, the ozone layer is recovering and is expected to recover its thickness by 2050, reaching pre-1980 levels.

Global solutions for a challenge against the clock.

Under the European Green Pact last July 14th, the European Commission launched an ambitious package of measures known as “Objective 55” or “Fit for 55” that aims to achieve a 55% reduction in CO2 emissions on the continent by 2030.

According to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), many of the effects of global warming are already an irreversible reality, especially in oceans and arctic areas. With this affirmation, the targets set are no longer aspirations or ambitions, but obligations that we must all take upon ourselves.

At EccoFreight, we are aware that transport accounts for 29% of global emissions. Since our creation in 2014, we have been implementing tangible measures, with measurable impact and that bring real benefits to the environment Calculate, Reduce and Offset.

With the launch of our digital platform Eccologistics360, developed with avant-garde technology, our customers can calculate and reduce both the CO2 emissions of their freight, as well as the freight of all their customers.

In this way, we take a step forward in generating environmental awareness, a fundamental element in EccoFreight‘s DNA, transforming the present to create the future.
