Global Sustainable Shipping and Ports Forum 2019

Last week the Global Sustainable Shipping and Ports Forum 2019 was held in Copenhagen, a meeting between different companies and institutions within the maritime community whose purpose was to share knowledge on the latest developments in sustainability in the logistics and port sectors.

On September25 and 26, the Danish capital hosted more than 90 companies and institutions from the maritime sector, including shipping companies, carriers, logistics operators, port authorities, technology companies, fuel companies, etc.

The agenda of the event was divided into different topics comprised conferences and panels joined by industry experts. Fernando Giménez-Guervós, CEO of EccoFreight; and Germán Artagaveytia, General Manager, participated as speakers during the first day of the meeting, in a presentation in which they shared EccoFreight’s contribution to logistics sustainability with the attendees.

On the first day, the speakers dealt with topics such as scrubber cleaning systems, LNG as an alternative fuel, European environmental initiatives, optimization of emissions from the maritime sector and sustainable forwarding, a presentation carried out by EccoFreight representatives.

The CEO and General Manager of the company explained how EccoFreight was incorporated and how it was created with the goal of bringing sustainability into the spotlight of the logistics process. They explained the importance of promoting client involvement in logistics sustainability, which EccoFreight encourages through the free assessment of carbon emissions from logistics operations.

In addition, Giménez-Guervós and Artagaveytia presented the Eccologistics 360 project, which arises from a demand among clients who need to make their logistics operations more sustainable.

The event continued with Thursday 26, which dealt with issues such as sustainability measures carried out by port authorities, financing and investment options for sustainable initiatives at an European level, the support and involvement of different governments with regard to initiatives aimed at improving sustainability, and compliance with different environmental regulations through the use of scrubbers.

Throughout the two days of Global Sustainable Shipping and Ports Forum 2019, held at the Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen, attendees also had numerous opportunities to establish new business relationships and share insights and knowledge.

Without a doubt, these were fruitful and enriching days that focused on the importance of sustainability in the maritime sector.
