Monday, January 26, marked World Environmental Education Day 2019, a date established as such by the UN since 1972, following the Declaration of the Conference on the Human Environment held in Sweden that same year.
Although it is true that human beings have always been concerned about the conservation of their habitat, this date served to establish a common basis through which society could become aware of the importance of taking care of the Environment and, consequently, the planet.
Environmental Education
We need to raise awareness on the need to take care of the planet we live on, of the importance of taking all necessary measures to preserve the flora and fauna that surround us.
And it is also truly important for us to help children appreciate nature and the environment, helping them enjoy the diversity offered by nature so that they can understand the need to take care of the planet as much as we can.
Environmental education allows us to become aware of the importance of taking care of the Environment, taking education as a tool to learn and become aware of the current situation in which the natural environment is.
It is necessary to be interested in order to get involved in environmental care, therefore the main purpose of environmental education is to spread a sense of environmental commitment among people: so that we are all able to assess the impact of human actions on the Earth in order to be able to take measures to mitigate consequences such as climate change or the extinction of animal and plant species.
